A chocolate company in Skipton will generate 25 new jobs in the north of England after securing a multimillion pound deal with a crisp supplier.

Whitakers Chocolates has announced that it will provide dozens of employment opportunities in the North Yorkshire town, following the completion of a £2.5 million contract with Elizabeth Shaw.

The new recruits will work on the five-hour manufacture and packing of the Bristol-based company's mint crisps, which has been facilitated with an investment of £200,000 in new equipment, the Bradford Telegraph reported.

William Whitaker, managing director of Whitaker Chocolates, claimed that this new partnership will provide stability for the company's employees.

He told the local newspaper: "This is fantastic news for the local community, not only securing the future of our current 115-strong workforce, but also creating 25 more jobs."

Last month, business secretary Peter Mandelson claimed that the Yorkshire economy will benefit from the growth of new industries post recession.
