An estimated 250 construction jobs could be created if planning permission is granted for a new store on the outskirts of Belfast.

Sainsbury's is seeking approval for the 60,000 square foot facility in Dundonald in the east of the city that will have a petrol station, 550 parking spaces and a cafe.

If the application is given the green light, the company claims that it will create around 500 full time and part time jobs when the store is completed.

Chris Templeman, Sainsbury's head of property development, declared that the proposed outlet "shows a great commitment by us and the developers to the Northern Ireland economy and the emerging economic recovery", in addition to generating new positions for workers in the region.

Planning permission is being sought to build on the site of a former Rolls Royce factory on Upper Newtownards Road and a 120-bedroom hotel is also being proposed for the same location.

Those seeking a recruitment agency to assist them in finding work may also be interested to learn that Sainsbury's is planning to build a new store in Liverpool that will generate an additional 500 retail jobs in the north west of England.
