A new programme being launched by McDonald's will offer young people seeking hospitality jobs the chance to gain a qualification. Those completing a ten-day placement with the chain will be rewarded with a Level 2 BTEC qualification that equates to a GCSE at a B or a C grade.
According to the fast food giant, the scheme will provide participants with training in teamwork, communication and other skills, which may lead to restaurants jobs in the future.
Training will form part of the placement, with mock interviews given at the start and end of the experience and workbooks to be filled in with teachers.
David Fairhurst, chief people officer for McDonald's, said: "Whether people join McDonalds for two weeks' work experience or a full-time job, the aim is helping them build their confidence, gain transferable qualifications and fulfil their potential."
McDonald's has previously declared its intention to provide up to 10,000 apprenticeships per year from 2010.
