A total of 2,000 production jobs will be safeguarded by the production of the new luxury XJ saloon in the West Midlands.

Over 400 workers have been employed to produce the Coventry-designed model at the firm's Castle Bromwich plant in Birmingham and it is intended to play a key role in Jaguar Land Rover's plans to recover from the recession.

The new vehicle has also generated a further 90 positions at Lear in Coventry, according to the BBC, with many other Midlands jobs reliant on the contracts Jaguar Land Rover has with hundreds of firms in the region.

Rachel Eade of industry organisation Accelerate explained the anticipated volumes for the XJ "would put production back into what we would call high volumes, large numbers, which means security of jobs and a chance of innovation in manufacturing."

Jaguar Land Rover was sold to Indian company Tata in March 2008 in a deal worth £1.15 billion following months of negotiations designed to protect thousands of jobs in the UK.
