Those seeking care assistant jobs may be interested to learn that record levels of interest have been witnessed in applications for social care positions in the UK.

According to new Department of Health figures, employers in the sector are reporting high numbers of candidates and a poll discovered that over one in three people would consider changing to a career in social care.

Interest was particularly high among younger respondents and care services minister Phil Hope remarked the growth of the recruitment pool is "brilliant news" for the industry, with care assistant jobs offering "the chance to make a real difference to someone else's life".

Over 28,000 people have registered their interest in such careers through a website run by the United Kingdom Homecare Association, while a nationwide campaign by the government to boost social care recruitment has included both television and print advertising.

Recent figures published by the Daily Mail indicated that levels of local authority-funded care available to people vary widely dependent upon where they live in the UK, creating a "postcode lottery" for services.
