A public sector agency will bring 500 new jobs to Scotland's second largest city when it relocates to a £9.7 million office block.

Glasgow Community Safety Services (GCSS) has announced that it will create hundreds of jobs in Glasgow's east end when it moves to the 65,000 sq ft development near Bridgeton Cross, the Evening Times reported.

The organisation, which is run by Strathclyde Police and the city council, hopes that its relocation to the area will have a significant effect on the local economy and labor market.

Phil Walker, managing director of GCSS, explained that the office block will form part of the east end's regeneration.

He told the newspaper: "The premises have been tailored to meet our needs and this will allow us to consolidate our staff under one roof, enabling us to streamline our services and provide an even better service."

Glasgow's labour market was given further cause for optimism last month when Iberdrola - the Spanish owner of ScottishPower – announced that it will create 100 jobs in the city.
