The reopening of a fish plant in the Western Isles will create 90 new employment opportunities in Scotland.

Lighthouse Caledonia has announced that it will redevelop the Stornoway-based Marybank facility, which closed last year with the loss of 100 jobs, the Press and Journal reported.

The company plans to open the plant in the summer to handle salmon harvested from another site in the Outer Hebrides.

To meet the demand created by this move, the company will begin recruiting for employees at the beginning of April - with positions created for harvesting and within the plant.

Jim Mullins, chairman of Lighthouse Caledonia, explained the firm is "working tirelessly" to bring jobs back to the region.

He told the news provider: "We are pleased to report we are reopening the processing plant at Marybank bringing almost 100 jobs to Stornoway."

Last month, the oil and gas specialist Sigma Offshore announced plans to create 140 new jobs in Scotland with the development of its mooring system later this year.
