Eisai promises 250 East England jobs

2nd July 2009

A Japanese pharmaceutical company has pledged to create more than 250 new jobs in the East of England, after opening a new base at Hatfield Business Park.

Eisai has finished the construction of its European Knowledge Centre in Hertfordshire, which will support employment for staff experienced in marketing, medicine, finance or IT.

The new facility will also include a centre for discovery research and clinical development, as well as a manufacturing facility that will enable the company to create its products in Europe for the first time.

Deborah Cadman, chief executive of the East of England Development Agency, emphasised the impact that this development will have on the regional labour market.

She told Business Weekly: "It is good news for the local economy and for people in Hatfield that Eisai is creating high-skilled jobs in a sector the region is traditionally strong in."

Eisai has bases within 19 countries in the European Union and provides employment to thousands of workers.
