The transformation of a passenger cruise ship in Swansea will generate 300 temporary employment opportunities.Swansea Dry Dock has been awarded a £20 million contract to refit the Saga Pearl II by Saga Shipping, which will provide the Welsh city with hundreds of industrial jobs for a three-month period.
The company disclosed that it will also award some of the engineering work to Barry-based Harris Pye Group, creating a number of additional jobs further down the supply chain.
A spokesman for Saga Shipping explained that this refit will be the "most comprehensive and expensive in the company's history".
He said: "The dry dock facility will now be opened and refurbished, providing some 300 jobs over a three-month period, enabling it to compete for future business."
The Welsh labour market was given further cause for optimism in September when the government-funded Future Jobs Fund scheme disclosed that 300 new positions will be created in Wales in the next 18 months.
