Scotland's youth employment will come under the microscope as a group of young people attend the country's ninth National Economic Forum. They will be met on February 2nd by first minister Alex Salmond and employment minister Angela Constance, and it is the first time that this age group have been invited to take part.
The event comes just a day after the draft publication of the Scottish government's Youth Employment Strategy, and it will also be attended by seven ministers and 200 representatives from the private sector, along with members of trade unions and third sectors.
As part of the strategy, the Scottish government said that it will work with stakeholders to publish a plan, while also encouraging businesses to offer much-needed support to young people.
"Jobs and economic growth are this government's top priorities and I think youth employment most of all is critical. The economic cost of unemployment is significant but the cost of youth unemployment in disaffection and disillusionment is even greater," said Mr Salmond.
He added that a range of measures are "making progress" in order to tackle this issue, however, he stated that the government "must do better".
"We know we are not immune to the consequences of international economic uncertainty and the severe austerity measures being imposed by Westminster," he noted.
