Morrisons has announced it is set to expand its Kiddicare brand, which it purchased last year, with the result of 700 new retail jobs being created over the coming months. Scott Weavers-Wright, chief executive of Kiddicare, said the creation of ten new flagship stores will put the brand within easy reach of almost one-third of the UK population.
"As well as being fantastic destination superstores for families across the country, they are the ideal platform for Kiddicare.com to lead the baby market by giving a true multichannel experience," he commented.
Morrisons has taken over the lease of ten former Carphone Warehouse sites and will be transforming these stores into Kiddicare properties using a £15 million fund.
The plans are now in place to open these new premises, with Morrison hoping to have all ten fully open for business by autumn this year.
Meanwhile, Asda has announced it is to undertake a £500 million expansion project in 2012, with the company set to take on an additional 5,000 employees at its new stores.
Overall, Asda is hoping to open 25 new stores this year, while it is also embarking on refurbishment work at 43 sites and planning the delivery of three new depots.
