Recruitment consultants looking to fill job vacancies may be interested to know that some employers are looking for soft skills as well as higher education qualifications. This is according to Rachel Morgan-Trimmer, founder of thecareerbreaksite.com, who suggested that jobseekers who have had a career break are often attractive to companies looking to fill a position as they will have gained more life skills and independence than those who come straight from university.
"A career break can help you tremendously in your professional life. You will be getting valuable experience of a kind you simply can't get back in your day job," she said.
Ms Morgan-Trimmer added that people will be able to develop a wide range of communication skills while on their travels, such as learning a language, or soft skills such as teamwork and problem solving.
The expert also commented: "Taking a career break looks really good on your CV as well."
Showing the initiative of taking a break from the career ladder shows an employer that a candidate has the confidence to do different things that may be challenging, according to Ms Morgan-Trimmer.
According to aboutcareereducation.com, there are many personal and professional benefits of taking a break from a career, but a person must be certain that it is the right thing to do for them.
