Fast food sandwich chain Subway has announced it is to create 6,000 restaurant job vacancies over the next three years. Under a scheme to further extend the company's reach across the UK and the Republic of Ireland, it will open 600 new branches.
Subway, established as an American-style eatery in 1965, currently operates 1,400 shops in the UK.
The company has stores in 98 countries worldwide.
Subway's founder Fred DeLuca, said: "This month all across Britain we've installed our calorie menus, people can come in and see the exact calories in the sandwiches, and what we do at Subway is we make the sandwiches individually for the people."
Commenting on how the stores are run, he added that nothing is pre-made and that customers come into the eatery and select everything from the bread to the sandwich filling and sauce.
This announcement comes just days after American fast food giant McDonald's announced it would create 2,500 jobs in Britain.
Prime minister David Cameron and deputy prime minister Nick Clegg welcomed the decision, which they said will bring a significant boost to the economy.
Mr Cameron commented that McDonald's has a great record in investing in the careers of its staff and offers many incentives to its employees.
