Recruitment consultants looking to fill job vacancies should advise their clients that training schemes to actively develop staff could help to retain members of the workforce.

This is according to Elizabeth Bacchus, director of thesuccessfulcv.com, who suggested that companies can keep hold of talented staff that are an asset to their business by investing time and money in ensuring they are developing well within the company.

"Most people want to develop in their careers and if a company shows a commitment to supporting individuals in their career development, staff will stay if these needs are met," the expert said.

Ms Bacchus added that the use of workplace mentors, head hunters and talent spotters is a great way to ensure that staff are supported sufficiently, as well as showing that their talents are recognised and distributed throughout the company.

"Producing simple, yet effective performance and assessment tools and measurements that are clearly communicated and understood by all managers is critical," she commented.

The CV writing specialist also explained that strategic succession plans to encourage people to work towards promotions are a sure-fire way to keep employees interested and stimulated.

Business stress consultant and author of Show Stress Who's Boss! Carole Spiers recently suggested that proper communication between staff and employers is key to keeping morale high and in turn maintaining a strong workforce.
