Recruitment consultants may be interested to know that employers mostly want employees who have the right attitude towards work.

This is according to Roger Harrop, also know as the CEO Expert, who has spent over 25 years leading international business at the highest level.

He suggested that if a prospective candidate has a good attitude and is willing to work hard and commit to the company then this is a more positive factor than hundreds of qualifications.

"If it is a position for someone highly qualified then it has to be someone highly qualified, but as a general rule, what one is looking for is someone who has got bags of common sense plus a real desire to make stuff happen," the expert said.

Mr Harrop added that some employers are more inclined to take on school leavers and train them up to the required standard rather than paying more to recruit graduates.

Attitude is the most important thing a person looking for a job can bring into the interview room, according to Mr Harrop, who also mentioned that it does not matter if someone has a degree or not as long as they are able and willing to work.

Deputy prime minister Nick Clegg's scheme to increase the number of job vacancies available for young people in the UK - the Youth Contract - recently won the support of business leaders after he promised to make tackling unemployment his top priority this year.
