Employment agencies could be interested to know that company bosses should ensure they go to extra lengths to boost morale in the workplace during the bleak month of January.Business stress consultant and author of Show Stress Who's Boss! Carole Spiers said that communication is an essential tool that employers can use to banish the winter blues among the workforce.
"It really is a matter, now more than ever before, of bosses needing to talk to their teams. They need to inspire them, motivate them, assure them that everybody knows exactly what's going on," the expert added.
She explained that organisations need to adopt a culture of openness among employers and employees whereby there is a general knowledge of what is happening within the company.
Bosses need "to motivate their teams as well as they possible can" despite the fact that January is deemed to be the most depressing month of the year.
Ms Spiers also urged that people should stop dwelling on the negative nature of the month and rejected the idea that January 16th was the most depressing day.
It was widely reported that January 16th was the most downcast day of 2012 and it was deemed Blue Monday.
This is due to post-Christmas blues, the arrival of bills and the realisation that it is a long time before the next public holiday.
