A new training and internship scheme could help young people gain employment opportunities with skilled tradesperson jobs. Transport for London (TfL) is giving young adults the chance to work in the rail sector and learn valuable skills that could help them secure future job opportunities.
As part of a new paid internship programme called Train and Track, TfL hopes to provide people with valuable insight into the daily workings of the sector.
Students aged over 18 will get the chance to undertake a six-month training placement at one of 25 firms within the transport industry.
A TfL spokesperson said: "We are pleased to be part of this extremely laudable project. It is providing graduates with a vital first job opportunity in a crucial UK industry that is expanding to play a major part in the nation's recovery and future prosperity."
They added that young, smart people will be able to make important contacts while gaining vital front-line experience.
Furthermore, the graduates chosen to be a part of the scheme intended to boost employability will be funded by and contracted to national transport management firm Network Rail.
Typical roles as part of the internships will be in network, operations, station and train teams, customer service, sales and marketing, route strategy, asset management and project management, according to TfL.
TfL already offers a range of schemes to help people get into work, such as the Information management apprenticeships and London Underground engineering project.
