Virgin Money has revealed that it is creating a total of 200 new job vacancies at its operations in Edinburgh.

The posts in Scotland will be based at new operations centre in the city from 2011, with further finance positions anticipated as it increases its retail banking services.

According to the company, the additional roles will expand its workforce in the Scottish capital to 500.

It has stated that the decision to create a new hub in Edinburgh is because of the level of experience in the sector within the city, with plans in place to start recruiting employees from spring next year.

A spokesman for the company, Scott Mowbray, told the BBC: "Clearly in Edinburgh there is a fantastic pool of talent in banking and financial services and it makes sense to tap into that."

Virgin Money is the financial services arm of Sir Richard Branson's business empire and it was established in 1995 as a joint venture between Virgin Group and Norwich Union. It is now in the company's full ownership and has over 2.5 million customers.

The move follows a recent announcement by bank Barclays that it is creating 600 new posts in Scotland over the coming years as it expands its operations in Glasgow.
