The number of jobs available in the UK's ICT industry has continued to expand during the past 12 months.

Figures from KPMG and the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC) show that both permanent and contract employment in the sector grew during the second quarter of 2010.

This is according to Computing magazine, which stated that growth in jobs creation has slowed over the past year but the workforce is continuing to increase, with talent gaps found in .net development, CAD operation, analysis and general IT staff.

REC technical sector director Dave Pye told the news source: "IT employment prospects are certainly better than they were a year ago and we've seen something of a permanent jobs-led recovery."

He added that growth is starting to slow although the decline is likely to oscillate over the coming months, with skills shortages seen in niche areas such as business analysis, programming and security.

The KPMG and REC Report on Jobs for August demonstrated that permanent placements continued to increase during the period, but at the weakest rate for ten months.

In addition, the study showed that temporary staff employment rose at a similar rate despite candidate availability contracting during the month from July.
