A series of 175 additional retail jobs are being created at a revamped Tesco store in the north east. This is according to the South Yorkshire Star, which reports that the supermarket giant is planning to expand a branch in Doncaster.
Located in Edenthorpe, plans have been drawn up to transform the branch into a Tesco Extra Superstore and local shoppers will be consulted about the proposals for the Thorne Road site.
The news source revealed that the retailer plans to expand its workforce at the shop from 200 to 375, with the revamp including a new shop front for the premises and a cafe.
Doncaster Central MP Rosie Winterton stated: "Doncaster has a highly skilled workforce and so I am very excited about the possibility of new jobs for local people that will offer flexible working hours."
Plans for the store include green measures such as using natural daylight, low-energy refrigeration technology and a combined heat and power system.
Meanwhile, further north east jobs, including
care assistant roles, are expected if a proposed three-storey elderly care home in York goes ahead, potentially providing 83 bedrooms next to the city's private Nuffield Hospital.
