An additional 900 job vacancies in Northern Ireland could emerge from a proposed new development, it has been suggested.Situated in west Belfast, the scheme will include leisure and housing space and has been hailed by chief executive of the West Belfast Partnership Board Geraldine McAteer as a "key milestone", the Belfast Telegraph reports.
It will feature shops, private and social homes and leisure facilities, with Ms McAteer stating that a "new urban community" will be created that balances a range of facilities with sustainable development principles and modern technology.
Social development minister Alex Attwood stated that he has appointed companies to develop proposals for the areas on Glen Road in order to co-ordinate efforts.
"We now have an opportunity to take a holistic approach and create a new neighbourhood in west Belfast, drawing on modern, sustainable design principles," he told the news source.
Proposals are being drawn up by property consultants GVA Grimley alongside Aecom and Berwin Leighton Paisner, with a new framework scheduled for release in early 2011.
It was recently revealed that a new £15 million economic development campus is being created at Belfast Metropolitan College in order to promote enterprise, entrepreneurship and employability in the city.
