A series of new positions in a range of different areas are being created in Scotland by ScotRail. The company has announced it is recruiting for people to fill 130 jobs generated by a rail route opening up in the country.
According to ScotRail, the new line will run between Glasgow and Edinburgh and is scheduled to open in December this year.
The planned route runs from Airdrie to Bathgate and is expected to cost £300 million to complete.
New roles for employees of the train operator will include ticket examiners, train presentation workers, station staff and drivers.
"The new line is great news - creating jobs and travel opportunities," Steve Montgomery, managing director of ScotRail, declared.
"It also demonstrates the commitment and strength of industry partnerships in achieving significant improvements to the railway in Scotland."
ScotRail was awarded a three-year franchise extension by the Scottish government in April 2008 and the company has a programme of investment planned that includes train refurbishments, station enhancements and lighting upgrades.
In June, infrastructure organisation Network Rail announced that it was creating more than 300 positions for skilled engineers during the next year in order to deliver a series of projects, including schemes such as Crossrail and Thameslink.
Chief executive Iain Coucher said the
job vacancies will help to deliver a better UK railway, improving services for passengers and freight users across the country.
