Aberdeen-based company PSN could create new jobs for professionals following a new agreement with Shell.

The lucrative deal - worth almost £200 million - may result in hundreds of new employment opportunities in Scotland, energy services firm PSN has predicted.

Under the terms of the contract, the company will provide the oil giant with a range of offshore work relating to the dismantling of operations in the Brent field.

Initial stages of the decommissioning activities are scheduled to commence later next year and PSN's UK managing director has forecast the deal will "position Aberdeen as a global centre of excellence for offshore decommissioning".

"We are confident the contract will provide a significant number of new job opportunities in the decommissioning services sector," Peter Brown added.

Management and engineering jobs are expected to be generated by the North Sea agreement, with an estimated 700 people currently employed on the Brent platforms and a similar number expected to be required to dismantle the rigs.

Formed by a management buy-out in 2006, PSN provides a range of global energy services and has created over 2500 job vacancies since May that year, with a workforce of more than 8,500 people in 26 countries around the world.
