A shortage of talent in the ICT sector has led a collection of universities and employers to launch a new competition to identify potential recruits. The contest is intended to locate individuals with skills in the field and to enhance them by offering training places and degree courses as prizes.
Entitled the Cyber Security Challenge, it has been unveiled online with a view to expanding the talent pool in
ICT security and increasing interest in the sector.
It was launched on Monday (July 26th) by Baroness Neville-Jones, the UK's security minister, with initial tests - including a treasure hunt - unveiled to be completed over the internet.
Virtual contests will be succeeded by a face-to-face masterclass, with over 30 prizes being offered over the length of the exercise in recognition of participants' abilities.
A series of national online games and competitions has been established by organisers for both teams and individuals to participate in, with prizes ranging from places on the Detica Academy to professional mentoring sessions and internships.
"Those who demonstrate excellent levels of skill and talent will be exposed to potential employers who will look favourably on anyone who can perform well throughout the challenge," a statement on the website reads.
