Our client, a well established Solicitors based in Leeds City Centre are seeking a professional Legal Secretary to work within the Family law department. This position is temporary for two weeks covering annual leave, commencing 01-08-11
Job Responsibilities:
As a Legal Secretary you will be able to :
- Generally assist the fee earners of the firm in preparing cases for Court and advising Local Authority, private and publicly funded Clients in the role of secretary.
- Transcribe both audio and copy work into accurate and legible typescript by way of a word processor.
- Produce word processed documents in the style required by the originator or into an agreed style and to use skill and judgement in determining appropriate style and form when no instruction exists.
- Produce documents to the required timescales.
- Ensure that an appropriate number of copies and the supporting documents are passed back to the originator.
- Check all work completed before it is returned to the originator.
- Maintain tapes, disks and a proper reference index system so that work can be easily retrieved and reproduced.
- Assist in maintaining all fee earners files and to file and retrieve documents on request from client files.
- Assist in the preparation of Community Legal Services documents and documents required by the office manual as required and requested by the fee-earners, for example client instruction sheets, Notice of Acting, Notice of Funding Certificates.
- Assist in the preparation of documents in both public and private family law cases including the drafting of legal documents and the preparation of cases for Court, including bundles of evidence, as required by the fee earners.
- To undertake all general faxing as required and requested by fee-earners.
- To carry out any general administrative or clerical work as may be requested by the fee-earners from time to time.
- To respond to general telephone enquiries (i.e. those that cannot be dealt with by the Receptionist/Typist) and if appropriate to refer to the relevant fee-earner.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience of working within a Family Law Department
- Good typing and PC skills
- Legal Secretarial Experience

- Ability to work as part of a team
- Warm and welcoming telephone manner
Normal working week is 37.5 hours based on a changing 5 day shift pattern, Monday to Saturday, between 8.30am 5.30pm - plus one hour for lunch.
